West St Leonards Primary Academy is pleased to be a Bike-It school.
Having achieved Sustrans’ Bronze Award for promoting cycling, we seek to encourage the school community to choose to travel in this and other more active and sustainable ways, such as scooting and walking.
Members of staff who are ‘Bike It Champions’ include Mr. Woods, Mrs. Bodiam and Miss Cotton, who, together with a group of children (the Bike Crew) meet to discuss ways to encourage more children to cycle and scoot to school.
We sometimes award a Lucky Lock prize. Should a child finds their bike or scooter has unexpectedly gained a lock which prevents them from going home at the end of the day, the child can visit the school office to claim the key and a prize.
Janie, from Sustrans, visits our school from time to time, sometimes accompanying us on our bike rides and leading skills sessions or puncture repairing. Dr. Bike visits to conduct safety checks and to advise when repairs are needed.
Other events are held from time to time throughout the academic year to promote cycling and scooting to school.
